Elements of the supernatural seem natural in fall

WELCOME TO Lyndi’s Adventurous Friend AUGUSTINA van HOVEN!

I love the fall. It’s my favorite time of year. I love the changing of the leaves and the varying colors of orange, yellow, copper, and brown. It’s also the time of the harvest. I’m an avid gardener and this is when I get the payoff for all the planting, weeding, and watering. All these things are important to me, but the thing about Fall that I look forward to the most is Halloween.

To this day, I still dress up in costume to answer the door and pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters. This year I will be dressed up as the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. This goes a long way to explain why I write paranormal romance. For me a good romance involves a vampire, a shifter, time travel, aliens, or magic. Anyone of those elements hooks me every time. I love the adventure and the danger that the paranormal elements bring to a story.

As my tribute to Halloween, I created the Eldritch Series. This is not a romance, but supernatural suspense. The first book in the series is HARBINGER. The series takes place in 1880 in the town of Dante’s Hollow, Maine. Nicholas Harwood, is an apothecary who has grown up with the knowledge of the supernatural. It is the legacy of his family. He is able to see and speak to the dead. Nicholas and his unlikely group of companions—a druid sorcerer, a witch, a medical doctor and a ghost or two—protect the town from the supernatural threats around them.

Book 2 of the series, CURSED, releases on October 4th. This time Nicholas and company, face a new threat. A werewolf has come to town and they must stop it before the body count grows.

Cursed

Not everything is beautiful under the light of a silvery full moon.

A new evil walks the night in the woods near Dante’s Hallow. Nicholas Harwood and his companions-a druid sorcerer, a witch, his best friend and a few ghosts, race against time to stop this new creature before the body count grows higher. Can they save the town without alerting the local people to the truth about the supernatural?

Excerpt

He was approaching a tight curve in the road where the forest grew thicker on both sides. Brutus stopped and stamped his feet, trying to turn around and head back to English Point. Nick had a hard time controlling the animal. “Easy boy, what is it what you sense?”

Nick stayed in the saddle. If he dismounted, Brutus might bolt. Something was frightening the horse, something the creature could sense but Nick couldn’t. Brutus acted like this when Nick tried to get him closer to the cemetery than the maple tree. Something was nearby, and standing here in the middle of the road with thick trees and brush on either side was a good way to get ambushed.

He adjusted his grip on the reins and tapped his flanks to signal the animal to run. Brutus obeyed. They raced along, coming quickly to the tight curve. They rounded it, and the horse reared, dumping Nicolas onto the gravel.

Brutus disappeared into the foliage, leaving Nick on the ground. When Nick finally caught his breath and sat up, there, several feet in front of him was a handcart filled with fish and ice and a man stretched out on the ground.

But that wasn’t what nearly stopped Nick’s heart, or what had terrified the horse.

It was the thing that was leaning over the man pulling his heart from his chest—a gigantic black wolf.
